Types of Pigmentation

Treatment Methods

  1. Topical treatments: Vitamin C, retinoids (tretinoin), hydroquinone, arbutin, kojic acid, niacinamide. Physician prescription and consistent use are required; results are seen in 8–12 weeks.
  2. Chemical peeling: Glycolic acid, TCA, kojic acid, or combinations. Lightens pigmentation and renews the skin. 4–6 sessions are recommended.
  3. Laser and IPL: Selective heating fragments melanin. Q-switched laser, fractional laser, or IPL is selected based on the type of pigmentation.
  4. Microneedling + serum: Delivers brightening serums to deeper layers; products containing vitamin C and arbutin are used.
  5. PRP + mesotherapy: Tone evening, improved skin quality and radiance; can be combined with other methods.

Sun Protection Is Essential

Sunscreen (SPF 30+, preferably 50) and hat use are essential in pigmentation treatment. Otherwise, spots recur or darken. Treatment intensity may be reduced during summer months.

Conclusion

Pigmentation treatment requires patience; noticeable improvement can be seen within 3–6 months. Consult a dermatologist or aesthetic physician for accurate diagnosis and a personalized protocol.

The type of pigmentation (melasma, sun spots, PIH) determines the treatment choice; sometimes laser and peeling are planned together. Topical treatments require 8–12 weeks of consistent use; patience is important. Sunscreen and hat use during and after treatment reduces the recurrence of pigmentation.
