What Is Post-Thread Lift Care?
Post-thread lift care encompasses the guidelines to follow after a face-lifting or brow-lifting procedure performed with PDO (polydioxanone) threads, aimed at accelerating recovery and preserving results. With proper aftercare, swelling and bruising subside quickly, and thread anchoring is supported.
The First 24 Hours After a Thread Lift
- Do not touch or massage the treatment area.
- Do not sleep face down; sleep on your back with an elevated pillow if possible.
- Cold compresses (ice pack wrapped in a thin towel) applied at 10-15 minute intervals help reduce swelling.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and steam baths.
- Refrain from alcohol for 48 hours.
When Can You Wear Makeup After a Thread Lift?
Makeup should be postponed for at least 24-48 hours after a thread lift. Applying makeup products before the small entry points on the skin have closed can increase the risk of infection. For detailed information, please refer to our post-procedure makeup guide.
Swelling and Bruising After a Thread Lift
Mild swelling largely resolves in 2-3 days, and bruising in 5-7 days. Cold compresses and arnica cream (with physician approval) may be used. Additional recommendations can be found in our article on how to reduce post-procedure bruising and swelling.
Long-Term Care After a Thread Lift
Avoid intensive chewing and excessive facial expressions for 2 weeks. Do not undergo laser, radiofrequency, or deep peeling treatments for 1 month. For general information about thread lifts (PDO), please see our thread lift guide article.
The threads' stimulation of collagen production beneath the skin becomes noticeable within 2-3 months; during this period, sun protection and avoidance of heavy exercise accelerate healing. Not picking at small scabs at the entry points reduces the risk of infection and scarring. Your physician may recommend a follow-up appointment after 2 weeks to evaluate whether the threads have anchored properly.
